Psalm 122:1
“I was glad when they said to me, let us go into the House of the Lord.”
Lawndale Baptist Church’s Constitution
What We Believe
Verbal Inspiration
We believe that every word of the Old and New Testaments, in the original manuscripts, was written by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and that the Bible is consequently wholly without error. We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, and that it is the only infallible rule of faith and practice.
The Trinity
We believe that God is Triune and that there are three eternal, co-equal divine persons in the Godhead and these three are one God. (Luke 3:21, 23; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14; and Deuteronomy 6:4)
The Person of Christ
We believe in the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ and that He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin. (John 1:1, 14 Luke 1:35; 1 Timothy 3:16; Colossians 2:9)
Salvation
We believe that the only way to be saved is by faith in the blood sacrifice, substitutionary atonement, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ the Son of God. We believe in the eternal security of the saints. (John 3:16; John 14:6; Ephesians 2:8,9; Acts 16:31; Romans 8:25, 26; John 10:28; Hebrews 7:25; 1 John 5:13)
Intercession
We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven and is now seated at the right hand of the Father and that He is the only Mediator between God and man, our intercessor. (Mark 16:19; Hebrews 9:24; 1 John 2:1; 1 Timothy 2:5)
The Church
We believe that the church, which is the Body of Christ, began with the descent of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost; that each one who receives the Lord Jesus Christ, is indwelled by the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:1-4; John 7:39; 1 Corinthians 12, 13; Romans 8:9-15; 1 John 2:27; 1 John 4:16)
Our Doctrine
Our Commission
We believe that the Gospel commission is for the church; that baptism in water, and the Lord’s Supper are divine institutions and that Christ desires us to practice them in this age. (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16; Luke 24:47, 48; Romans 6:3,4; 1 Corinthians 11:23, 26)
The Lord’s Return
We believe that Christ shall at any moment return in the air to rapture the saints, followed by a Tribulation of seven years; after which He shall come to the earth with the saints and rule for a thousand years. After this, the wicked dead shall be judged and cast into the Lake of Fire. (John 14:3; Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17; Daniel 9:27; Jude 14; Revelation 20:2-6, 15)
Satan
We believe that Satan is a person, the author of the fall of mankind and that he shall be eternally punished. (Genesis 3:15; Job 1:6,7; Revelation 20:2, 10)
Final State
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust, and in the eternal conscious punishment of the lost and the eternal joy of the saved. (1 Corinthians 15:22-24; John 5:28, 29; Matthew 25:46; Revelation 21:4)
